Your Complete Guide to Australian Beaches

Think of the tropics and chances are, Australia comes to mind. Known for its incredible beach life and surf culture, we don’t blame you for dreaming of the beautiful beaches Australia has to offer— we do the exact same thing. In fact, we literally cannot stop thinking about them, we’ve compiled a little tourist guide to help you decide where you need to go on your next vacation Down Under!

Disclaimer: this article would be pages and pages long if we were to mention every beach in Australia, so forgive us if we leave out your favorite!

Byron Bay, NSW

Upon entering Byron Bay, you’re greeted with a sign that says, “Cheer Up, Slow Down, Chill Out”, and we’ve tried to find something more fitting to describe Byron Bay, but let’s be honest, it’s the only proper way to describe the Bay. Famous at one point for being a ‘hippy’ destination, it has since reached mainstream tourist culture, and honestly, we still love it. It’s definitely not as quiet as it once was, but it’s incredibly beautiful, nonetheless. Filled with radiant beaches, Byron Bay offers countless entertainment options. You can visit their main beach and mingle with other tourists or visit one of their ‘smaller’ (think: quieter) beaches for a relaxing day in the water.

Aside from its beautiful beaches, the Bay is also known for the Cape Byron Track, a trail that will lead you to one of the most beautiful sunrises you will see. Bonus: you can also sometimes spot humpback whales from the lighthouse on the trail!

Noosa Main Beach, Queensland

If you’re new to the beach scene and just wanting to lounge and swim, or if you have little ones with you, this beach is perfect. It’s known for its lack of heavy waves (sorry, surfers!), and year-round lifeguard presence! It’s one of the few north-facing beaches in Australia, which means that it’s beautiful and warm year-round. If you’re looking for a last-minute vacation, we highly recommend Noosa!

If you’re looking for a break in the shade (or yearning for some air conditioning), Noosa Main Beach is just a short walk away from the famous Hastings Street! There, you can find countless shops and restaurants and cafes to cool off in between swim sessions!

Bondi Beach, NSW

This wouldn’t be a true Aussie beach rundown if we didn’t include Bondi Beach. Arguably the most famous beach in the world, Bondi lives up to all the hype. The hometown of our founders, we might be a little bit biased when we say that this beach is high up on the list of our favorites. This beach has everything you could possibly need: you can swim, surf, shop, hike, and eat, all in one place. If you’re a first-time visitor in Australia, it’s a must. If you’re dying to learn how to surf, Bondi Beach has got your back. They offer surf lessons right on the beach so you can pick up a new hobby on vacation. Not big on surfing? The water is perfect for swimming, and you can even go whale watching during peak whale seasons!

If you only have time for one beach on your Australian vacation, this is it. If you don’t believe us, take a look at our aerial Bondi Beach photography, and add one to your print collection, because even if you don’t end up travelling this year, it’ll be a beautiful reminder to make time for yourself and enjoy a breezy, tropical vacation! If you’ve been to Bondi Beach and just want to reminisce, our photos make better souvenirs than magnets (*wink wink*).

Whitehaven Beach, Queensland

This beach is so beautiful, it’s won awards. Do we need to say more?

In case you aren’t yet convinced, this beach is located on the stunning Whitsunday Island, and it’s famous for its bright white sands and it’s incredibly clear (and clean!) water. It’s protected by the Whitsunday Island National Park, so if you’re looking for a beach that you know will be protected from tourism and agriculture, this is perfect for you. On the north end of the beach is Hill Inlet, an inlet that can only be described by some as one of the most breathtaking views. When the tide shifts, the water and the sand create a blend of colors that we won’t even try to describe— you’ll have to see it for yourself.

So, here are a few of our beach picks to get you inspired and ready to treat yourself to a beautiful beachy vacation. Again, we couldn’t fit them all into one article, but we think that this quick list will be enough to convince you to come visit these beautiful islands or pick up a print to remind you to cross that travel destination off of your bucket list. We can’t wait to be a part of your travel diary. Cheers!
